The Drexel Pilates program is a vibrant cross-section of students, faculty and community. Housed in the Drexel Athletic Center at 33rd and Market Streets, the program offers a fully equipped studio, personalized instruction, mixed equipment classes, mat classes, and its trademark 450-hour Drexel Pilates Training Program – all available to the Drexel community and the public.
The Drexel Pilates Studio offers open enrollment for mixed equipment classes taught by the Drexel Pilates staff and upper level apprentices. Some of the program’s clients include Drexel students, alumni, faculty, local residents and even some of our more fit college deans. A list of Drexel Pilates’ services – including private sessions, mixed equipment classes and training session – can be found on the program’s new website at Drexel.edu/pilates, which also includes class schedules and info on how to enroll.
Jennifer Morley, an assistant professor in our Dance program and master Pilates instructor, created and developed the Drexel Pilates Training Program and serves as its director. “With Pilates, we’ve been able to form a substantive partnership between Drexel academic and athletic organizations on common ground,” Morley explains. “In building out the program we’ve tapped into resources and support that we already had in place. We offer services for every individual interested in Pilates. As we’ve grown, our classes become extremely dynamic without losing integrity. We also offer one-hour private sessions seven days a week throughout the year.”
“We’ve received a very positive response from our clientele,” says Dance Program Director Miriam Giguere. “I’m very proud of this program. All of our Pilates teachers are dancers, with an academic background in technique, kinesiology and injury prevention. And, we can boast that the program is run by a master Pilates instructor.”
