Interior Design graduate students Natala Covert and Xiao Long were selected as winners of the second annual HOK Futures Design Challenge, which asked students to design a solution for the abandoned Broad Street Pier in Philadelphia’s Navy Yard. Covert and Long’s entry, Ilexenci, earned them a $6,500 cash prize and an internship opportunity with HOK’s Philadelphia studio. Jurors applauded the design’s “outstanding color palette and thoughtful research.” Their win was recently profiled in an April print edition of Metropolis, an Architecture and Design magazine. Graduate students Jasmine Jia Ye and Neha Basavaraj, also from Westphal took home second place.
