Design Research Symposium

10/5/2016 10:35:18 AM

On Friday, October 14th we’ll host the Design Research Symposium, a series of events that explore the emerging field growing out of the work of artists, designers and interdisciplinary collaborators whose investigations push the boundaries of traditional disciplines, requiring interdisciplinary approaches, the mastery of new technologies, and intensive research to unearth solutions to practical and aesthetic problems. Panels will cover Systems and Processes in Design Research, Design Research for Well Being, and Research in Design. Other events will include an exhibit of Design Research, and a screening and talk about Professor Nicole Koltick and the Design Future Lab’s film and research project, “Nurturing Emergent Synthetic Life.” Speakers include Jill Roberts of the Healthy Rowhouse Project; Christina Grimes of Ballinger, a design, interiors and engineering practice; author Toby Israel and numerous faculty from Drexel’s Dornsife School of Public Health, the ExCITe Center, Westphal and more. For information on these free events, including the lunch and reception, please click here. To attend the symposium, part of this year’s DesignPhiladelphia, please email Dee Nicholas at dsn35@drexel.edu.

As the oldest design festival of its kind in the country, DesignPhiladelphia highlights the work of thousands of local designers, architects, and creative professionals to demonstrate Philadelphia’s reemergence as a 21st century city shaped by thoughtful design, collaborative business practices, and community engagement. The DesignPhiladelphia Festival emerged in 2005 to identify, celebrate and raise the profile of this city’s 50,000+ creative economy.
