DNews Premieres New Episode
November 28, 2012
DNEWS, the NATAS and Telly award-winning news show on all things Drexel and Philadelphia, will premiere its latest episode on Friday, November 30th at 8 PM on DUTV. If you missed Entourage creator Doug Ellin’s campus visit in October, Film & Video student Courtney Thomas and her production team have highlights from that visit. Students in our Digital Media program spent a lot of time this fall with the Philadelphia Fire Department and DNEWS was on hand for two important fire safety events: Darielle Brown-Davis and Jordan Stewart, Web Development seniors, created a fire safety app for smart phones that was unveiled at a press conference and demonstration featuring Philadelphia Fire Commissioner LloydAires and, later in October, when the PFD along with Drexel Public Safety held ‘Dump the Dorms,’ a mass fire drill to prepare campus residents in case of a fire emergency. Rounding out the episode will be stories on a Civil War-era factory in Fishtown, the ‘Hobbitfest’ that celebrated the upcoming release of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit from director Peter Jackson, and a unique, open-air exhibition, ‘Open Air Philly,” that turned the sky above the Ben Franklin Parkway into a huge outdoor light show controlled by audience responses.
The segments are entirely student developed and produced with faculty guidance from DUTV general manager Dave Culver and Executive Producer Marty Zied. If you are interested in creating segments for DNEWS contact Dave Culver at dc75@drexel.edu. DNEWS is sponsored in part by the Kal & Lucille Rudman Foundation and can be seen on DUTV,which is carried throughout Philadelphia on Comcast and Fios.
