Welcome

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Drexel University; a campus that promises to be full of excitement and energy!

I am amazed at how our students, who have additional responsibilities in their lives – managing demanding academic schedules, rigorous personal schedules, families, jobs, children, and the list goes on – get involved and stay connected with Drexel. Research shows that students who are engaged and involved in university activities and programs tend to be more successful and continue to persist in their studies. I encourage all of you to get involved in student clubs and organizations.

I encourage you to begin looking at the countless ways which exist for students to be engaged with Drexel University. Perhaps you may be interested in joining one of over 300 student organizations, ranging from spiritual and cultural organizations to sports clubs, to academic honor societies, to social fraternities and sororities, to intramurals, to political organizations and many, many more. Get involved in the events sponsored by our Resident Assistants in the Residence Halls and the Commuter Assistants in the Creese Student Center and elsewhere on campus. Attend the leadership development programs, popularly known on campus as CEO workshops, sponsored by our Office of Campus Activities. If community service and volunteer activities strike a chord with you, contact Campus Activities - they will get you connected.

I challenge all of you to stretch yourselves to do your very best academically – but do not neglect the other dimensions of your life: your family and friends, the social, physical, and recreational components of university life. Know that you will work hard at Drexel. Also know that you need to have fun as part of a well rounded educational experience! Take advantage of the many opportunities to get involved with your campus. Your involvement in campus life will truly enhance your overall Drexel experience.

I wish the best of success to all of you and remind you that the Student Affairs staff is here to support you in whatever way we are able. Please let us know how we may better assist you!

Sincerely,

David A. Ruth, Ph.D.
Dean of Students
