Joseph Campbell joined Drexel University in June 2000, shortly after serving as North Carolina State University's Chief Operations Officer for the 1999 Special Olympics World Games.
Campbell brings over 23 years of experience in higher education administration with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Economics, a Master's degree in Student Personnel Counseling in Higher Education, and a Doctorate degree in Higher Education Administration.
Before being named to lead University Procurement in 2003, Campbell served three years as Drexel's Director of Residential Living. During that time he was an adjunct faculty member and partnered with the Pennoni Honors College to form the Honors Residence Hall program. He also initiated the development of residential based learning communities with the College of Engineering, the Lebow College of Business, Westphal College of Media Arts and Design, and the College of Information Science and Technology (The iSchool at Drexel).
In 2011, Campbell was named Senior Associate Vice President for Administrative Operations with the responsibilities of leading strategic initiatives critical to the success of Student Life and Administrative Services and Drexel University. As Senior Associate Vice President, he oversees and manages university procurement; sustainability operations; the planning, design, and prioritization of business initiatives; procuring major University construction and capital projects; critical issues management; and the development and proper monitoring of Student Life and Administrative Services’ departmental goals.
Campbell has served as chair of the Drexel University NCAA Athletic Certification Steering Committee, as well as the 14-member institution Philadelphia Area Collegiate Cooperative group purchasing organization. He is currently a member of the Drexel University Intercultural Engagement and Diversity Initiative Steering Committee and active in Drexel's environmental sustainability initiative, Drexel Green.
Before coming to Drexel University, Campbell worked for the University of Georgia, University of Miami, Appalachian State University, Radford University and North Carolina State University.
