The Drexel Police Department
The Drexel University Police Department is composed of full-time sworn municipal police officers certified through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission with law enforcement authority at Drexel University's three campuses (University City Campus, Center City Campus, and Queen Lane Campus).
||In November 2011, the Drexel University Police Department and Drexel Public Safety Communications Center received international accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Both achieved advanced reaccreditation in 2015. Drexel is the only university in the world with both police and communications center accreditations.
Drexel University Police strive to respond swiftly, effectively and with sensitivity to the diverse community we serve and are trained in a number of specialized areas including:
- First Aid, CPR and use of Automated External Defibrillators;
- Crisis and hostage negotiation;
- Crime prevention and education;
- Tactical police bike patrol; and
- Community outreach.
Officers are on patrol by foot and vehicle, working diligently with students, faculty and professional staff and collaborating with the broader University City community and the City of Philadelphia to deliver the highest quality of service and protection. Our Public Safety Communications Center maintains constant communication with the Philadelphia Police Department, the University of Pennsylvania Police Department and other law enforcement agencies to ensure a prompt and coordinated law enforcement response.
We regularly meet and consult with students, professional staff and faculty regarding crime prevention and safety issues and share tactical, strategic and investigative information with:
- Philadelphia Police Department;
- University of Pennsylvania Police Department;
- SEPTA Police;
- Amtrak Police;
- Philadelphia Housing Authority Police; and
- Security partners throughout University City.
