This message was shared with faculty on Friday, February 13.

Dear Colleagues,

As part of our ongoing commitment to academic excellence and preparing our community for an evolving technological landscape, we are pleased to share that faculty now have access to ChatGPT Edu — a secure, university-licensed generative AI platform. This enterprise platform will be subsequently rolled out to professional staff, followed by students, in a phased approach to ensure appropriate guidance and support.

Advancing AI Literacy and Institutional Capacity

Drexel has long embraced innovation, from early investments in campus-wide technology infrastructure to new approaches in teaching and research. In that spirit, ChatGPT Edu is being introduced to support learning, scholarship, and professional practice across disciplines while maintaining Drexel’s academic values. Faculty retain full discretion over whether and how AI tools may be used in their courses, and University guidance will continue to emphasize the role of both traditional approaches and various AI tools to enhance learning.

Importantly, Drexel’s enterprise agreement ensures that conversations and data shared in a Drexel ChatGPT Edu account are not used to train OpenAI models. You are encouraged to use University-licensed AI accounts for University-related work so the protections in this enterprise agreement apply.

Features

Drexel’s ChatGPT Edu license provides enhanced functionality and institutional safeguards, designed to enable thoughtful, responsible engagement via the following features:

  • GPT-5 Chat and Search: Access to the latest Chat GPT 5.2 model for fast, high-quality responses.
  • Secure Institutional Access: Integration with Drexel Connect, providing single sign-on authentication and a secure connection.
  • Higher Message/Usage Limits: Institutional access beyond the free consumer ChatGPT experience, allowing for extended or multi-session tasks.
  • Advanced Features: Access to image generation (up to three images per day), deep research queries (up to five per day), specialized interfaces like Study and Learn Mode and custom GPTs that can be tailored to specific needs.
  • Enhanced Privacy Protections: Conversations are not used to train OpenAI models and remain within Drexel’s enterprise environment.

Certain advanced features of ChatGPT, which may incur an additional cost to the University, are currently under consideration. Updates will be shared as these resource decisions are finalized.
