Announcing Caroline Schauer as Interim Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement

This announcement was sent to faculty and staff by the Provost on December 12, 2022.

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Caroline Schauer, PhD, has been appointed interim associate vice provost for faculty advancement, effective January 1, 2023. In this role, she will work collaboratively with colleagues in the Office of Faculty Advancement and stakeholders across campuses and units to manage faculty lifecycle processes, support our faculty’s continued growth and development, and advance critical policy development and infrastructure.

An internationally known expert in natural polymers and polymer processing, Dr. Schauer is the Margaret C. Burns Chair in Engineering, a position that was established to support a faculty member who champions women, minorities and members of the LGBTQ community. She is also associate dean for the research enterprise in Drexel Engineering and a professor of materials science and engineering with 19 years of service to the University.

Over the past decade, she has held progressive leadership roles within the college, beginning as materials science and engineering graduate advisor in 2011 and serving as the inaugural associate dean for faculty affairs (ADFA) from 2018 through 2022, before her appointment as associate dean for the research enterprise earlier this year. As ADFA, Dr. Schauer was instrumental in updating the college’s tenure and promotion policy, onboarding new faculty, creating a bi-weekly newsletter and chairing the college’s cluster hire initiative as well as DEI committee. Additionally, Dr. Schauer serves as the founder and co-director of the Drexel Women Faculty Association.

As Dr. Schauer transitions in January to assume the interim associate vice provost role, Jin Wen, PhD, professor and associate dean for faculty advancement in Drexel Engineering, has been appointed interim associate dean of the research enterprise to ensure a smooth transition in the college. I would like to sincerely thank Senior Vice President Elisabeth Van Bockstaele for chairing this search, as well as the search committee for their time and dedication to the search.

Please join me in welcoming and supporting Dr. Schauer in her new role!

Sincerely,

Paul E. Jensen
