STAR Scholars
An early undergraduate research experience for first-year students.
The STAR (Students Tackling Advanced Research) Scholars Program is an opportunity for highly motivated first-year students to engage in an early faculty-mentored undergraduate research, scholarship, or creative experience during the summer after their freshman year. This highly competitive co-curricular educational program seeks to identify and encourage students to take a hands-on approach to their education through undergraduate research.
Students who participate in the STAR Scholars Program complete a full-time faculty-mentored research, scholarly, or creative project during the summer between their first and second years. STAR Scholars choose their own faculty mentors, with guidance and support from Undergraduate Research & Enrichment Programs advisors.
Over the summer, in addition to conducting research, STAR Scholars participate in programming and events to support their professional development, introduce them to opportunities and resources at Drexel, and form community. The STAR experience culminates with a poster presentation at the annual STAR Scholars Summer Showcase.
To enable participation, STAR Scholars receive a stipend and free on-campus housing for the duration of the program.
Apply to STAR
Prospective students can apply to STAR during the admissions process to the University. Current first-year and transfer students can apply through the mid-year application process.
STAR is open to students in all majors. Students do not need to be in the Honors Program. International students are eligible to participate.

Current Student Mid-Year Application Process
Current Drexel first-year or transfer students can apply for the STAR Scholars Program during the mid-year application process, which opens during the Fall Term and closes in the Winter Term. Current students interested in applying are encouraged to attend a STAR Info Session in the Fall Term. Current students with questions about the application can email urep@drexel.edu.
