The fifth annual Celebrating Drexel Authors event was held April 26 to honor Drexel University faculty, staff and students who wrote or edited books and journal articles that were published in 2016. A total of 75 Dragons from 13 different colleges were honored this year, with 28 book editors and authors previously recognized at a Drexel Authors event.
New this year was the inclusion of commemorating Drexel University authors who published 20 or more journal articles or were named in the top 1 percent by citations in their field by Clarivate Analytics’ 2016 Highly Cited Researchers list. The new addition was championed by Provost M. Brian Blake, PhD, who is no stranger to publishing journal articles himself, in order to recognize the importance of articles in journals and proceedings put forth by Drexel writers outside of a book, textbook or novel. University librarians recognized 2,030 articles published this year by Drexel-affiliated authors, which only added to Drexel’s growing influence.
“Whether published in print or digital form, in books or in journals, your contributions to scholarly help raise Drexel’s reputation,” Blake told the authors and editors at the event. “You help shape research by making your work available for others to discover and utilize and to expand knowledge on the global scholarly landscape.”
Since the Celebrating Drexel Authors event was established in 2013, 201 Dragons had been recognized for their writing efforts, with that number growing to 276 with this year’s class of authors.
Tenure-track, teaching, research and adjunct faculty, as well as professional staff members and two students published the written works recognized at the event. The publications included new research, scientific discoveries in medicine, works of fiction, teaching guides and translations.
Here’s a comprehensive list of honorees and their works:
