Drexel University College of Medicine is pleased to announce that Mary Anne Delaney, MD, has been appointed interim chair of the Department of Psychiatry. Delaney is a professor of psychiatry and vice chair of the department. "Dr. Delaney's scholarly work, leadership experience, and longstanding commitment to the institution make her extremely well suited to lead the Department of Psychiatry," said Daniel V. Schidlow, Annenberg Dean and senior vice president of medical affairs.

Delaney received her medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College, where she remained for her residency in psychiatry and her fellowship and chief residency in child and adolescent psychiatry. She was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha in medical school and graduated from Hahnemann with a number of awards and commendations. She also completed training in adult psychoanalysis and child and adolescent psychoanalysis at the Philadelphia Psychoanalytic Society. Since completing her fellowship she has been a faculty member at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, Hahnemann University School of Medicine, the combined schools, and Drexel University College of Medicine. She was director of the Division of Child Psychiatry at one or more of these institutions from 1992 through 2008.

Delaney is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in general psychiatry and in child and adolescent psychiatry. Her publications, research interests and support have been in the areas of studying systems of care for children and adolescents with mental health disorders and in psychopharmacology for children and adolescents with aggressive behaviors, especially children with autism. She was also a co-director with the team at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Autism Center for the Pennsylvania Eastern Region Autism Education, Research, and Training Centers. She served as medical director of the Drexel Autism Center until 2011.

Delaney completed an ELAM® Fellowship in 2008 and has been a faculty member of ELAM (Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine) for more than six years, as director of the finance curriculum. She has also chaired and been a member of the Marion Spencer Fay Award committee for the last seven years. Delaney served as president of the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Society from 2011 to 2012, and remains active in various committees of the society. She has also participated in the Task Force for Advocacy for Children of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and represented the Regional Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of the Philadelphia area at the Assembly of the AACAP.

Delaney has been listed in Philadelphia magazine's Top Docs several times. She has served as service chief at the Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital and Hahnemann Hospital, and chair of psychiatry at Abington Memorial Hospital. At St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, she was the chief of child psychiatry until 2008. She has served on multiple administrative committees for the College and has been the chair of the Faculty Steering Committee and the Bylaws Committee.
