Dr. Lane is an assistant professor in the Department of Neurobiology & Anatomy at Drexel University College of Medicine. He serves on the Neurobiology Graduate Student Selection Committee and the Master's Subcommittee of the Biomedical Graduate Education Committee. He supervises two graduate students and mentors a postdoctoral fellow.

Prior to coming to Drexel, Dr. Lane was an assistant professor in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Florida, McKnight Brain Institute. He also served as a lecturer in the annual NIH-funded Sinal Cord Injury Training Program at The Ohio State University from 2009 to 2013.

Research

After completing his graduate studies and early postdoctoral work in spinal cord injury (SCI) in Australia at the University of Melbourne, Dr. Lane relocated to the University of Florida to investigate the neuroplastic potential of the injured cervical spinal cord. This research developed a particular focus on respiratory dysfunction and spontaneous recovery. In 2013, Dr. Lane moved to the Spinal Cord Research Center within Drexel University College of Medicine's Department of Neurobiology & Anatomy to continue his research into neuroplasticity following cervical SCI. Employing a range of electrophysiological, behavioral and neuroanatomical methods, the present goal of his research team is to 1) better define the extent of functional and anatomical plasticity at spinal and supraspinal levels and 2) develop and test therapeutic strategies to enhance spontaneous neuroplasticity and lasting functional recovery. Among those therapeutic approaches being tested are intraspinal cell transplantation and rehabilitative strategies.
