Annette Gadegbeku, MD, primarily cares for patients in Center City, where she specializes in primary care for all ages. She currently serves as the physician preceptor for Drexel's H.O.P. (Health Outreach Projects) student-run clinics in the Philadelphia community. She serves as a primary care referral for the Healing Hurt People program, specializing in trauma-informed care. She is also the director for refugee health services at Center City and serves as physician ambassador for Glory Unlimited Ministries, with whom she participates in medical missions in rural Jamaica, Kenya and Puerto Rico.

Annette Gadegbeku, MD, is associate professor and chief, Division of Community Health in the Department of Family, Community & Preventive Medicine, as well as senior associate dean of the Office of Community Health and Inclusive Excellence. Dr. Gadegbeku is also medical director, Healing Hurt People, Center for Nonviolence and Social Justice at the Dornsife School of Public Health and assistant director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center of Jefferson Health.

Her academic interests include urban and underserved community medicine, adolescent medicine, women’s health and global health. She engages students and faculty in health equity–related scholarship and service and collaborates on community stakeholders’ events.

Dr. Gadegbeku has a passion for underserved, marginalized, vulnerable and at-risk populations with a focus in harm reduction. She serves as the clinical faculty advisor for the Drexel University College of Medicine Health Outreach Project (HOP) student-run clinics and education programs including Eliza Shirley Women & Children’s Shelter, Salvation Army Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Center, Streetside Prevention Point, Smoking Cessation, Microgreens Outreach and Narcan Outreach Projects.

Research

Dr. Gadegbeku's research interests include but are not exclusive to the impact of community engagement on health disparities in underserved and marginalized populations, as well as impact on curricular education, clinical service and trainee knowledge, skill, attitudes, perspectives and future community engagement in their careers. She integrates opportunities for community partnership, as well as inter-professional community engagement, education and community-based participatory research across all schools, colleges and departments within Drexel University.
