Becoming a standardized patient requires a good memory, and excellent listening skills and concentration while being trained, interviewed and examined. Prior acting experience is not required.

Standardized patients must be able to respond exactly as a real patient would, and only as that patient, not as themselves. As a standardized patient, you must be able to sustain not only the patient's character but also their physical condition consistently throughout the time that you are assigned to play that role.

Being a standardized patient is hard work and Drexel University College of Medicine demands high-level job performance from its standardized patients. Though the College of Medicine welcomes individuals from a large range of career backgrounds, being a standardized patient is not a job for everyone.

Choose the “temporary/per diem/casual employment” option, then in the right hand column, use the search feature to find standardized patient positions. You may also use the search to narrow options by location. Please note, it’s recommended you review the position details carefully as there are multiple standardized patient programs within the University.

The College of Medicine will invite you to participate in our next group interview if we think you might be a good fit for the standardized patient program. We do not accept walk-in applicants.
