Professional Practice

How does what you learn in the classroom, co-op positions, campus activities and student organizations impact your professional career? What experiences in college are transferable to the professional world? In a culturally diverse and multi-generational workplace, there is a need to better identify and apply competencies, skills, and experiences to prospective employers. Our goal is to help you do so!

The presenters will discuss transferable skills, setting and expressing professional goals, and identifying workplace strengths and challenges.

Some questions for discussion during our session:

• How do I apply the experience I’ve gained in college to a professional setting?
• What is the importance of having clearly set career goals?
• How do we best identify and meet employer expectations?
• What are effective ways of communicating with people across different cultures and generations?

This workshop will offer insight on applying the knowledge and skills gained from a program of study to the achievement of goals in a work, clinical, or other professional setting. Additionally, students will learn strategies for transitioning from college to career as well as increase self-awareness of linking experiences to the professional world.
