Global Competence

Today’s students face a rapidly changing global environment in education, employment, and recreation. In this workshop, the presenters will discuss the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to be competent in a globalized world.

The presenter will discuss the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to be competent in a globalized world. The presenter will discuss and explore the various shades of meaning related to the idea of globalization and the way it is expressed in the Drexel Student Learning Priority associated with “Global Competence.”

Some questions for discussion during the session:

• What is the meaning of global competence in your major and in your career plans?
• What global knowledge and skills do you have or would you like to develop?
• What experiences have you had or would you like to have in your education to increase your global competency?

The English Language Center will present information about models of global competence, intercultural communication skills, discuss opportunities to develop global competence in academic courses as well as opportunities on and off campus. Participants will then develop a set of action steps relating this information to goals for their own contexts for learning. You will leave the session with more understanding of global competence for your own major and co-op plans, and an understanding of some of the resources and opportunities available at Drexel University.
