Joann Wong, Finance '20

Born and raised in Philly, Joann have not traveled much yet, but she intends on it. She wants to study abroad in order to be exposed to new cultures and to make new friends from around the world, as the program is made up of international students!

Joann chose Hong Kong because she has always dreamed of going there ever since she was a child.  She hopes to be able to stand in the landmarks, and in the very spots she has seen on television, and embrace her surroundings.

Joann has never lived on my own before, as she commutes to campus. She looks forward to becoming more independent and having more free time to explore the country in which she is going to! She also hopes to improve her Chinese and speak more with the locals! Hong Kong is known for their night life and Joann can’t wait to be standing on the busy streets at night surrounded by street food, street performers, and my new friends!

 Esther Han

Esther Han, Biological Sciences ‘21

Esther is a third year student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences. She received the Gilman Scholarship for her study abroad experience in Seoul, South Korea at Hanyang University during Summer 2019. Studying abroad was one of her personal and academic goals she planned for herself when coming to college.

As a Korean American, Esther chose South Korea as her study abroad destination because she wants to immerse herself into her culture and gain a first hand educational experience in Korea. Along with the wonderful educational experience she will be receiving, Esther is looking forward to meeting other study abroad students and learning more about their countries!
