Drexel will award 20 honorary degrees to prominent individuals, including NBC News’ chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell, legendary architect Robert A.M. Stern and MIT professor Robert Langer — the most cited engineer in history.

Chemical and Biological Engineering senior, Amanda Decker, has recently been offered a 2014-15 Fulbright Scholarship.
Decker will be graduating in June 2014 with a BS/MS in chemical engineering and a biological engineering concentration. Decker has been an active member of Engineers Without Borders, Kappa Theta Epsilon (Co-op Honors Society), Tau Beta Pi (Engineering Honors Fraternity), and the University Band. Her research while at Drexel under Dr. Steven Wrenn has explored the effects of saponin, a family of plant derived compounds, on lipid membrane stability and structure.

Reducing carbon emissions, improving efficiency of the power grid and using ultrasound to treat contaminated water are just a few of the research goals being pursued by the first round of projects funded by the A.J. Drexel Institute for Energy and the Environment. In all six projects received seed funding totaling $270,000 to investigate topics related to environmental protection and sustainability.

Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering Doctoral student Adams Rackes has recently been offered a 2014-15 Fulbright Scholarship. Rackes holds a B.S. in Architectural Engineering (summa cum laude) from Drexel in June 2012. He also received a B.A. in History and Literature (magna cum laude) from Harvard University. His interests include indoor air quality (IAQ), building energy consumption, building automation and control, and heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) components and systems.
