On Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 15, 2024, faculty from the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) and master's students at the Dornsife School of Public Health volunteered at the Share Food Program. They honored Dr. King's legacy of fighting for civil rights which included the right to food access which Dr. King's "Keep Moving from This Mountain" address at Spelman College in April 1960 notes.

They were among 200 volunteers on this day including members from the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, Share’s Board of Directors, and elected officials from the city and state including Governor Josh Shapiro, First Lady Lori Shapiro, Rep. Morgan Cephas, Rep. Danilo Burgos, Rep. Roni Green, and City Commissioner Lisa Deeley.

Together they packaged more than 1,300 boxes for seniors and pantry visitors and supported the nonprofit's pantry partners with distributions.

"We were happy to take part in this national day of service honoring Dr. King's legacy, and to help Share Food Program provide healthy food to people in need in Philadelphia," said Jerry Fagliano, PhD, MPH, clinical professor and chair of the Department of EOH.
