Dr. Taylor Invited to Serve on the Editorial Board of Injury Epidemiology
November 12, 2013
Dr. Jennifer Taylor, an associate professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at the Drexel University School of Public Health, was recently invited to serve on the editorial board of the new journal Injury Epidemiology.
The preeminent injury epidemiologist, Dr. Guohua Li of Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, founded the journal and has chosen an editorial board of renowned international injury epidemiologists to oversee the critique and ultimate dissemination of “studies that strengthen the scientific foundation of injury prevention and control and generate objective and practical knowledge to reduce injury morbidity and mortality on a population level.”
Dr. Taylor describes the need for this journal: “Injury is the leading cause of death for all Americans between the ages of one and 44, and this pattern is seen in many countries around the world. We need to increase the rigor of our current methods to access and address this problem, while at the same time developing new methods that will help us increase the sensitivity of our evaluation. This new journal will give us the forum in which to do so.”
Dr. Taylor also explains that “this appointment elevates Drexel’s contribution to the expanding science of injury prevention and control. Faculty here at the School of Public Health are currently engaged in research to reduce community-level violence, occupational injuries and combat the resulting traumatic impact these events often generate.”
With Dr. Taylor’s appointment, the School of Public Health will be involved in adding a new voice to the field of injury prevention.
