All master's and doctoral programs at Dornsife School of Public Health begin in the fall of each year. The certificate programs offer entry points during different terms. Please check the individual program websites for specific application deadlines.

Master's of Public Health (MPH)

Application Deadlines

  • Endowed Scholarship Deadline - January 15. Applicants interested in being considered for the Dornsife School of Public Health's endowed scholarships should apply no later than January 15.
  • Priority Deadline - March 15. Applicants who apply by March 15 will be given priority consideration for merit-based scholarships.
  • Regular Decision Deadline - June 30. Applicants will be considered for scholarships should funds remain available.

The Admissions Committee will begin releasing application decisions in late-January for fall entry.

Prerequisites

  • Satisfactory completion of an undergraduate degree program from an accredited US college or university, or its equivalent in another country
  • A course in Statistics is highly recommended

Application Requirements

  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  • Official results from the GRE* taken within the last 5 years (code to submit to SOPHAS is 7890)
  • Three letters of recommendation preferably from faculty
  • Essay discussing your interest in public health, your career goals, and why you are interested in the Dornsife School of Public Health. Typical length is 600-800 words. If you are interested in being considered for any of the Dornsife School of Public Health endowed scholarships, please address your interest and fit with one of these scholarships in your essay.

*Drexel University will also consider any one of the following exams in lieu of the GRE:

  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)
  • Law School Admission Test (LSAT)
  • Medical College Admission Test (MCAT)
  • Dental Admissions Test (DAT)

All standardized test scores must be no older than 5 years.

Applicants will select a major on the SOPHAS application, however students will have the opportunity to change majors should they find that their interests are within another academic department. All MPH students complete the first year core, and officially enter their major during the spring term of the first year provided that all core coursework and concentration prerequisites have been satisfactorily completed.

Master's of Public Health, Executive Program

Overview

Applicants to the Executive MPH program should have a minimum of three years of professional work experience at the time of enrollment, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, and experience or clear interest in Public Health. Previous experience in public health or a related setting is preferred, but not required. The Admissions Committee considers a variety of factors when reviewing candidates for admission, such as academic performance, practical experience and the applicant’s decision to pursue a career in public health through close evaluation of the essay and letters of recommendation.

  • Priority Deadline - March 15. Applicants who apply by March 15 will be given priority consideration for scholarships. Scholarships are highly competitive and available on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Regular Decision Deadline - June 30

Standardized Test Waiver

The standardized test requirement can be waived under one of the following circumstances:

  1. Applicant possesses a master's or first professional degree (MD, DO, PhD, JD, etc.) from an accredited college or university
  2. Applicant obtained a grade of B or better in an undergraduate or graduate course in one of the following: Pre-calculus, Calculus, Algebra, Statistics, or an equivalent such as completion of the School of Public Health's Certificate in Epidemiology and Biostatistics
  3. Applicant has professional and educational experiences demonstrating quantitative skills and aptitude.

Eligibility of the waiver under options 1 or 2 will be verified upon receipt of the applicant's official transcripts.

Master's of Science (MS) in Biostatistics

Overview

Applicants to the MS in Biostatistics program should have strong GRE Quantitative scores as well coursework in mathematics or a related quantitative or science field.

Prerequisites:

  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally in a quantitative field such as mathematics, economics and computer science or a scientific area such as natural, biological, medical and environmental sciences.
  • at least two semesters of calculus in college.
  • at least one semester of linear algebra in college.
  • knowledge and experience in computing such as operating system, office software and Internet. Familiarity with a programming language or a statistical package is desirable.

  • Two courses of college-level biology (i.e. microbiology, physiology, genetics, etc.)

Joint Doctor of Medicine and Master's of Public Health (MD/MPH)

Overview

Eligible applicants to the MD/MPH program must first submit their application to the Drexel University College of Medicine. On the College of Medicine’s supplemental application, please check the “public health interest” box to be automatically considered for the MD/MPH program. If the applicant is accepted to the College of Medicine, they will then be reviewed for admission to the dual degree program. Second year medical students can be considered for admission to the MD/MPH program on a case by case basis.

Joint Juris Doctorate and Master's of Public Health (JD/MPH)

Overview

Applicants to the JD/MPH program must first obtain admission to the Drexel University Kline School of Law. Once the applicant has been accepted to the Kline School of Law, they will then be reviewed for admission to the dual degree program.

Students may apply either before they begin their studies or during their first year of law school.
