Bridging Research and Policy in Taipei

Ottinger

June 27, 2017

From May 14 to May 27, 2017, Gwen Ottinger, PhD, was a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at the Risk Society and Policy Research Center (RSPRC) at National Taiwan University in Taipei. Her visit included academic talks at National Kaohsiung Marine University, National Chengchi University and National Yang-Ming University, as well as a presentation at RSPRC's "I Breathe, I Decide" forum on air pollution.

She visited with environmental activists and citizen scientists in cities and communities all over Taiwan, including Taipei, Kaohsiung, Yunlin and Taichung. She also had the opportunity to present her research at the Taiwan Environmental Protection Agency (TEPA), where her observations of the dilemmas U.S. air quality regulators face when interacting with environmental justice communities launched a lively discussion with TEPA staff, including the agency's Deputy Minister. The 2-week visit was funded by a grant from the Taiwan Ministry of Technology.
