Identifying Gaps, Building Bridges: Fostering Critical Exchange Between Socio-Legal Studies and STS

Thursday and Friday, May 10 & 11, 2018

9:00 AM-5:30 PM

This workshop will bring together scholars in science and technology studies and socio-legal studies and employ a range of methods to foster exchange and collaboration between the two fields.

The workshop will use several tactics to foster exchange and collaboration. The first two sessions will feature key scholars who have written STS or law and society introductory texts and have a proven track record of explaining key concepts and methods. There will be four Face to Face sessions where two scholars - one from law and society and one from STS - discuss their research projects, theoretical concepts and methodologies. Each scholar will respond to the other, discussing how they would add a STS or law and society concept or method to the proposed work. Face to Face sessions have been successfully used by the Denver Art Museum and the College of William and Mary. This format allows experts to engage each other in a creative manner. Both lunches will be structured to promote collaboration and the creation of new networks and research teams.
