Drexel University College of Computing & Informatics (CCI) Professor Rosina Weber, PhD was featured in a Feb. 16 NBC Nightly News feature on OpenAI’s revolutionary new text-to-video artificial intelligence (AI) technology, "Sora."

Sora represents a groundbreaking leap in AI, producing incredibly realistic videos based on user-entered scenarios. This cutting-edge tool — which is yet to be released to the public— has the potential to transform numerous industries with its innovative approach to video content creation; however, the technology also elicits some concerns from experts particularly around responsible use and ethical considerations (such as deepfakes).

Weber shared her insights on the AI-generated video technology, available for viewing on NBC Nightly News' website.

Weber's main research interests are in converting unstructured data to benefit humans through text analytics, AI, and explainable AI (XAI). She engineers knowledge from text (unstructured data), context, structured data, metadata and humans for various knowledge tasks in intelligent systems (e.g., conversational, recommenders) using intelligent methods such as case-based reasoning, neural networks, information extraction, natural language understanding, and genetic algorithms. Some of her application areas are scholarly data, computational support for literature reviews, knowledge management, scientometrics, finance, military operations, law and health sciences. Her background is in engineering and management, and her professional experience includes analysis and design of information systems and corporate finance.

She holds both a PhD and a master's degree in production engineering at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, and a bachelor’s in business administration from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
