On May 5, 2015, the College of Computing & Informatics (CCI) hosted the 7th Annual Jay Modi Memorial Lecture at the Paul Peck Alumni Center. The event, which is held annually in honor of late Drexel computer science Professor
Pragnesh Jay Modi, PhD, featured speaker
Vijay Kumar, PhD, who gave a lecture titled “Aerial Robot Swarms,” which discusses the challenges in developing autonomous, micro aerial robots.
Kumar is the UPS Foundation Professor in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania, where he has served on the faculty of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics since 1987, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Computer and Information Science and Electrical and Systems Engineering. His research interests are in robotics, specifically multi-robot systems and micro aerial vehicles.
Each year, the Jay Modi Award is presented as part of the annual Jay Modi Memorial Lecture. The award recognizes a computer science doctoral student in recognition of academic excellence and the potential to become a leader in the field; this year’s winner was CCI computer science doctoral student Lingchuan Meng.
