Drexel University’s College of Computing & Informatics (CCI) congratulates Associate Professor
Denise Agosto, PhD on her two-year appointment as Research Fellow at the
Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Agosto was nominated for the fellowship by a GSLIS faculty member for her exceptional contributions to the library and information science (LIS) field; the nomination was then voted on and approved by GSLIS faculty.
GSLIS is a charter member of the
iSchools organization, a community of schools interested in the relationship between information, technology and people and committed to increasing the visibility of the field of library and information science.
Agosto, who has served on Drexel’s faculty since 2001, teaches in areas such as youth information needs and resources, public libraries, oral and digital storytelling, and qualitative research methods. Her research areas include youth and social media, youth information behaviors and public library services. She has received several grants from federal agencies and nonprofit organizations to support her research.
Agosto is the executive director of CCI’s
Center for Study of Libraries, Information, & Society (CSLIS), which answers the call for research, collaboration and ongoing discussion about topics and issues specific to library and information science (LIS), LIS education, libraries and librarians, and library services in multiple contexts.
She earned her doctorate from the School of Information, Communication & Library Studies at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey; a master of library and information science from the Graduate School of Library & Information Science from The University of Texas at Austin; and a bachelor of science,
magna cum laude, in linguistics and Portuguese from Georgetown University.
