Turner’s research interests lie in the areas of human information behavior, including interactions with oral information; community informatics; document studies; and public libraries and other information organizations. She is a member of the College’s
Center for the Study of Libraries, Information, & Society (CSLIS), which unites faculty from CCI with faculty from other institutions, industry representatives and local and global community members to translate theory into practice, educate, inform policy and meet the library and information needs of modern society.
Gorichanaz, a student in the
PhD in Information Studies program, serves as research assistant to Turner on
The Oral Present, a three-year early career research project funded by the Laura Bush 21st-Century Librarian (LB21) Program at the
Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS; RE-07-14-0051). The project investigates how to design services for community members who prefer to talk about their information needs. His research centers on the information experience, both as a research object and as a way of offering insight into human information behavior.
DOCAM provides a unique multidisciplinary space for reporting experimental and critical research on the concept of the document and documentation, with participants from fields as diverse as information, media, museum, archives, culture and science studies. This year’s conference theme is “Documents Unbounded,” in which participants will examine the challenges ahead, as the understanding of data, documents, records, artifacts, evidence and memory, form in the continuously changing landscape of new media and communications.
DOCAM 2015 will be jointly hosted by the IKM and Digital Studies Program University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) and School of information Studies at Charles Sturt University (CSU).
