The College of Computing & Informatics (CCI) congratulates faculty member
Denise Agosto, PhD on her recent promotion to full professor by Drexel University’s Board of Trustees, effective September 1, 2015.
Agosto, who has served on Drexel’s faculty since 2001, teaches in areas such as youth information needs and resources, public libraries, oral and digital storytelling, and qualitative research methods. Her research areas include youth and social media, youth information behaviors and public library services. She has received several grants from federal agencies and nonprofit organizations to support her research.
She is also the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the 2011 Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) Award for Teaching Excellence in the Field of Library and Information Science Education, the 2007 Drexel University Outstanding Contribution to Online Learning Award, and the 2007 Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award.
Agosto is the executive director of CCI’s
Center for Study of Libraries, Information, & Society (CSLIS), which answers the call for research, collaboration and ongoing discussion about topics and issues specific to library and information science (LIS), LIS education, libraries and librarians, and library services in multiple contexts.
In addition to authoring or co-authoring over 100 scholarly publications, Agosto serves as editor of the
Journal of Research on Libraries and Young Adults, and as an editorial board member of
Library Quarterly, the
Journal of Information Technology Education: Innovations in Practice, the
Journal of Information Technology Education: Research and
Children’s Literature in Education.
She earned her doctorate from the School of Information, Communication & Library Studies at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey; a master of library and information science from the Graduate School of Library & Information Science from The University of Texas at Austin; and a bachelor of science, magna cum laude, in linguistics and Portuguese from Georgetown University.
