On Thursday, May 29, Drexel University and the College of Computing & Informatics (CCI) officially opened the doors to the Auerbach and Berger Families Cybersecurity Laboratory at 3401 Market Street in Philadelphia.
Drexel University
President John Fry and CCI founding Dean
David Fenske provided opening remarks for ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony, followed by remarks from
Carol Auerbach and
Albert Berger, whose generous gift to the University enabled the physical development of the laboratory and its resources.
The laboratory serves as University’s first training facility dedicated to identifying challenges and discovering solutions in the areas of cyber infrastructure protection and incident response. Operated out of the newly-launched Drexel University Cybersecurity Institute at 3401 Market Street, the laboratory will allow researchers, cybersecurity professionals and students to gain hands-on experience in protection, defense and attack operations without disturbing real-world networks.
Walter Straub, a longtime supporter of the University, was also recognized in the ceremony for his contributions in the creation of the Institute.
CCI teaching professor
Harvey Rishikof, joining the ceremony via videoconference, described how the University is leveraging its resources in the Drexel University Washington, D.C. Office to develop and offer unique online course offerings in cybersecurity.
