Special Accommodations (Exemption)

Students may request an accommodation (also known as an exemption) pertaining to Drexel's 2-Year Residency Program and/or the Dining Plan requirement due to special needs or extenuating circumstances concerning financial, medical or religious reasons, using the process below. Should a student request an accommodation after prior use of housing or dining services without such an accommodation, the student may be asked to clarify or explain the change in circumstances prompting the request.

Drexel Campus Dining Plan Requirement

First-Year students who reside in Residence Halls (operated by Housing and Residence Life) are required to select one of three First-Year Dining Plans for each academic term in residence. For more information, visit the Dining Plans webpage.

Accommodations for Sincerely Held Religious Observance/Beliefs

If seeking a housing and/or dining accommodation due to sincerely held religious observance/beliefs, students must complete the Housing/Dining Accommodation Form available in DrexelOne.

  • Visit DrexelOne
  • Click on the Campus + Community tab
  • Click on the Housing & Dining link
  • Select 'Housing & Dining Forms' from the top navigation bar, then select 'Housing/Dining Accommodation Form'

On the request form, students will need to provide a description of how a housing and/or dining accommodation will help resolve the conflict between their religious observance/beliefs and the University’s standard requirements. Please provide as much detail as possible. At the student’s discretion, they may attach a letter from their spiritual advisor to provide additional information in support of this request. For more information, visit the Office for Institutional Equity and Inclusive Culture website.

Any dining accommodation requests submitted after the two-week deadline (the second Friday of each term) will generally not be processed until the following academic term. A student may appeal this decision by providing evidence that extraordinary circumstances contributed to the delay in the request, and such an appeal shall be determined on a case-by-case basis by Drexel Business Services.

Accommodations for Financial Reasons

If seeking a housing and/or dining accommodation due to financial reasons, students must complete the Housing/Dining Accommodation Form available in DrexelOne.

  • Visit DrexelOne
  • Click on the Campus + Community tab
  • Click on the Housing & Dining link
  • Select 'Housing & Dining Forms' from the top navigation bar, then select 'Housing/Dining Accommodation Form'

Students must be proactive and request such an accommodation in a timely manner, as such requests may take approximately 10 business days to review. Dining requests submitted after the first two weeks of the current academic term will not be processed until the following academic term.

Accommodations for Medical Reasons

If seeking a dining or housing accommodation for medical reasons, students must submit documentation that supports the requested accommodation to Disability Resources. More information, including deadlines, can be found on the Disability Resources website. Students may contact Disability Resources directly at 215.895.1401, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., or email disability@drexel.edu. When we receive an approved accommodation verification letter from Disability Resources, we will update the student's account as directed.

Each request is reviewed by an internal committee/department for their recommendation and, once determined, a dining or housing representative will alert students – via their Drexel email address – to the final status of the request. Thank you in advance for your patience.
