Startup Advising and Mentoring

The Baiada Institute provides entrepreneurs access to individuals that can assist at any stage of a startup's life. Our Advising and Mentoring Programs “AMP Up” the entrepreneur's abilities and help accelerate their learning, venture progress, and skill development.

The AMP programs are designed to provide student, recent graduate, and alumni entrepreneurs with access to experienced individuals who can provide advice and mentoring as they develop new ideas and launch startups. They also provide experienced professionals with the ability to give back, stay connected to new ideas, and grow their network.

At the Baiada Institute, we make the important distinction between advising and mentoring:

  • Advising is typically a short term or ad-hoc relationship. This process involves subject matter experts focusing on close assessment of ideas or problems and the solutions to overcome them.
  • Mentoring is a more comprehensive, long-term, one-on-one relationship. This is usually between a more experienced and less experienced person and is designed for long-term goal setting and progress reporting. Mentoring includes developmental mechanisms like counseling, guidance, instruction, and a mixture of professional and personal growth.

The Baiada Institute's Entrepreneurship Advisory Programs include:

  • Startup Advisory Committee - A standing program that runs Wednesdays on campus. This program meets with prospective and current student and alumni entrepreneurs to provide them advice and guidance on their ideas.
  • Virtual Advising - Includes programs such as real-time chat meetings and online message forums. Specific program details are announced on the Baiada events page.
  • Referral to designated, qualified individuals based on a matching system.

The Baiada Institute's Entrepreneurship Mentoring Programs include:

  • Referral to designated, qualified individuals based on a matching system.
  • A future Mentors in Residence Program.
