Install and license Redshift on your PC or Mac

Maxon has made temporary at-home access to Redshift available for our students and educators.

Before you begin, make sure your PC or Mac meets the system requirements.

  Notes:

  • The Redshift plug-in is available for Autodesk Maya, Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Softimage, Maxon Cinema 4D, SideFX Houdini, and The Foundry Katana on PC.
  • The Redshift plug-in is available for Autodesk Maya, Maxon Cinema 4D, and SideFX Houdini on Mac.

Install Redshift

  1. Before you install Redshift, close any open instances of Autodesk Maya, Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Softimage, Maxon Cinema 4D, SideFX Houdini, and The Foundry Katana.
  2. Download the Redshift floating license build and temporary Redshift license file for your PC or Mac.
  3. Important: If you're currently using the standard license build of Redshift, you must first uninstall it before installing the floating license build of Redshift.

  4. Once the downloads have completed, follow the step-by-step instructions below to complete the installation for your device.
  5. Install on a PC

    1. Open File Explorer, go to Downloads, and double-click the redshift_v2.6.53_setup_flt.exe file (the name might vary slightly).
    2. If you see the User Account Control prompt that says, Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device? select Yes.
    3. On the first installation screen, select Next.
    4. Review the software license agreement, and then click I agree to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.
    5. On the Select target DCC applications screen, choose the desired apps you want to setup the Redshift plug-in for, and then select Next.
    6. On the node-locked license warning screen, review the information, enter Yes in the confirmation box to agree you have read the warning, and then select Install.
    7. The software begins to install. Click Next, and then click Finish when the installation is finished.
    8. Copy the redshift-core.lic file to the C:\ProgramData\Redshift folder.

    Install on a Mac

    1. Open Finder, go to Downloads, and double-click the redshift_v2.6.53_macos_flt.pkg file (the name might vary slightly).
    2. On the first installation screen, select Continue to begin the installation process.
    3. Review the software license agreement, and then click Continue.
    4. Select Agree to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.
    5. Review the disk space requirements or change your install location, and then click Install.
    6. Enter your Mac login password, if prompted, and then click Install Software.
    7. The software begins to install. Click Close when the installation is finished.
    8. Copy the redshift-core.lic file to the ˜/redshift folder.
  6. Redshift is licensed and ready to use.
