The Kal and Lucille Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies and the Pennoni Honors College present: The Great Works Symposium 2013-2014 "Media:  Past, Present and Future" – A yearlong look at the evolution of media over the centuries, divided into four course sections open to all Drexel students regardless of major.

The Great Works Symposium is an interdisciplinary course - focused each year on exploring a subject of the broadest possible interest and greatest societal impact, calling on students, faculty, visiting lecturers and artists to collaborate. The theme of the 2013-2014 symposium is "Media: Past, Present and Future." This broad canvas looks at the evolution of imagery with a particular focus this fall on "Imaging War." (Course number TVPR 365 UNIV 241) During this course, students will explore the ways in which the depiction of war and its aftermath have developed through emerging media over the centuries.

The winter course "Whither Goest Television" will examine the ways in which digital technology is either enhancing or challenging the very existence of the medium that in so many ways defined the late 20th Century. The Institute's spring course is titled, "How We Know What We Know." By applying news literacy and media literacy principles, we will learn to take control of the media we consume. And in summer, the Symposium will present "ME-dia: We Are All Creators Now," which explores the myriad ways in which the creative process is now available to everyone. Click here to visit the Rudman Institute's Great Works Symposium Website.
