Summer High School Study Programs
June 04, 2013
High school students from all over the United States will experience what it’s like to be a Westphal student this summer as part of our intensive, one- and two-week programs designed for talented and motivated students. These young students will live on Drexel’s campus, attend classes taught by Drexel faculty members, go on field trips and hear lectures by distinguished speakers.
We offer high school programs in Architecture, Interior Design, Music Industry, and Fashion Design and Design & Merchandising. High school students participating in the program must be at least 16 years of age and have completed their junior year by the start of their summer session.
For the Architecture and Interior Design programs, high school students will visit professional firms and work sites, see projects under construction and learn about green design. In addition, students will work closely with an instructor while creating a design project that they will eventually present to a professional jury.
The Fashion Design or Design & Merchandising summer program includes sketching and designing to produce a portfolio-ready project by the end the two-week session. Field trips provide an insider’s look at retailers, design boutiques and product design firms to discover where fashion, product and merchandising meet. These students will also visit some of Philadelphia's top cultural attractions, eat at Philly restaurants and attend at least one music or theater event.
Our summer program for Music Industry is a one-week intensive audio technology and business workshop taught by our faculty of industry professionals. Through the classroom, hands-on studio experience in our recording lab facilities, performance opportunities, lectures, and guest speakers our summer Music Industry program gives high school students a concrete view of the available career options in the areas of study that they most enjoy.
