Our longstanding Director of the Film & Video program, Professor Karin Kelly has been appointed Interim Department Head of Cinema & Television, bringing to her role more than twenty years of experience in the film and television industry. Professor Tom Quinn, an award-winning writer/director, will serve as the Interim Program Director of Film & Video. Professor Kelly is an independent filmmaker who has served as writer, producer, assistant director and director of feature films, commercials, music videos, corporate media, short films and a feature length documentary.

Professor Kelly was a fellow at Warner Brothers and Paramount Pictures, and she has worked on the sitcoms Home Improvement, In the House and Soul Man and produced for the Discovery network. She is the co-author of the definitive Film School Confidential: The Insider’s Guide to Film Schools, now in its second edition, and she holds an MFA in Film from NYU.

As Director of the Film & Video program she developed a comprehensive curriculum that emphasizes strong film studies and screenwriting components, as well as extensive hands-on student production experience. She created our popular Drexel in Los Angeles summer program; has presented an impressive number of campus visits and screenings with prominent film and television makers; and has organized a number of Drexel-produced videos for area nonprofits.

Listed one of the 25 New Faces of Independent Film by FILMMAKER MAGAZINE and one of the Ten Young Writer-Directors to Watch by MOVIEMAKER, Professor Quinn served as Visual Effects (VFX) producer at DIVE Philadelphia. He is a Gotham and Independent Spirit Award nominee for his film THE NEW YEAR PARADE, which won the Grand Jury Prize at Slamdance and screened at more than 40 festivals and venues internationally. He holds a BA in Communications and English from LaSalle University and an MFA in Film & Media Arts from Temple University. Professor Quinn's new feature film, Colewell, was one of 12 projects chosen from 56 countries to be developed through the Biennale College-Cinema this fall.
