Janice Selinger was Acting Executive Director for NJN Public Television until the State of New Jersey decided to get out of the television business on July1, 2011. Up until February 22, 2011, Selinger also served as Acting President of the Foundation for New Jersey Public Broadcasting, the non-profit 501(c) (3) charitable organization that sponsored programs and raised funds to support NJN. In that capacity, Selinger played an integral part in generating revenue and cultivating partnerships. Selinger also served as Acting Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Executive Director for Programming and Production at NJN Public Television.

Selinger was also Executive Producer in charge of development and production of national and local documentaries and supervised all station production, media productions, programming, graphics, Newark station operations, web, project budgeting, closed captioning and program development. In addition to these duties, Selinger also served as Temporary Acting Executive Director and Temporary President of the NJN Foundation from July 1, 2009 to September 2009 prior to the appointment of an Interim Executive Director.

Her major projects include Decoding Autism; The Hidden Child; Domestic Violence: Faces of Fear; Battered Wives: Shattered Lives; Throwaway Pets; Mission from the Heart and Reliving the Lindbergh Case, all of which aired nationally on PBS. Selinger also served as co-Executive Producer for NJN’s first international co-production with the BBC and NVC Arts.

Selinger has received a Corporation for Public Broadcasting Silver Award for Reliving the Lindbergh Case and the National Headliner Award for Outstanding Public Service by a Television Network for Battered Wives: Shattered Lives. Selinger has received numerous awards including fourteen regional Emmy Awards, a Vanguard Award, and a National Commendation Award from American Women in Radio and Television. She also received a Gracie Award for new media for the web site outreach and documentary Seeking Solutions, a program that examined innovative programs aimed at stemming violence in our schools. Selinger was also the recipient of the Society of Professional Journalists’ Sigma Delta Chi Award for Public Service for On-line Journalism for Diagnosis Cancer.

Most recently, Selinger has worked on a number of freelance projects. She raised the funds for and produced a pilot for a new health series, HealthBeat with Sara Lee Kessler, which aired on WHYY and NJTV. She is currently working on raising funds for the series as well as working as the Director of Media and Sponsorship Services for the Celebration of Heroes Weekend in Wildwood, New Jersey.

Prior to joining NJN in 1979, Selinger was on the staff of WCBS-TV in New York where she was an associate producer for the Emmy award-winning consumer affairs show, On Your Side with John Stossel, and the documentary series, Channel 2 Eye On.

A native of East Brunswick, N.J., Selinger graduated Phi Beta Kappa and holds a bachelors degree in journalism with highest distinction from Penn State University and a master in public administration from Rutgers University. She has taught at The College of New Jersey and Rutgers University.

Selinger is the former Second Vice Chairman of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and was National Secretary. She was President of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter and served as National Trustee. She is currently on the National Scholarship Committee and has served on the National Awards Committee and the Legal Committee. Selinger has served several times as a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) panelist and is a Board Member of the New Jersey Broadcasters Association.

Selinger is married to Martin Kline, an attorney in private practice in New Jersey. She has two grown children, Howard Kline, a lawyer in Alexandria, Virginia and Lesley Kline, a Public Relations Account Executive in New York City.
