Charles A. Johnson Jr., is a veteran director, musician, and educator who comes to Drexel with 30+ years experience in music. He is the Director of the esteemed Drexel University Gospel Choir.
Johnson matriculated his Bachelor of Arts in Music from Western Kentucky University, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership (K-12) from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. He has served as a Music teacher in the public schools teaching every grade level Kindergarten through 12th Grade, across the states of Kentucky, Alabama, and Pennsylvania.
Prior to joining the Drexel faculty, Johnson served in school administration as Director of Music and Art Education (K-12) for American Paradigm Schools. In addition, Johnson is serves as Adjunct faculty in the Urban Teaching Apprenticeship Program within the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education.
Johnson has served as past Music Director/Organist for the General Association of Baptists in Kentucky, and the Alabama Association of Baptists. He has served as Director of Music/Organist for: historic State Street Baptist Church, Bowling Green, KY, Sixth Avenue Baptist Church Birmingham, AL, Bright Hope Baptist Church, and Mount Carmel Baptist Church, both of Philadelphia, PA to name a few.
As an accompanist, Johnson has been privileged to serve in concert with the late Albertina Walker and Stellar award winner Dorothy Norwood to name a few. In musical theater, one of his most fond memories is serving on numerous occasions as an accompanist for Emmy award winning actress Annie Potts ,who starred on CBS' "Designing Women".
