Charis is a multi-faceted musician who enjoys composing everything from children's operas to avantgarde electroacoustic music. She finds inspiration in Palestrina, Shostakovich, George Crumb, and Mozart operas. Her inherent love for all things drama has led her to not only compose stage works, but to also coach theater repertoire and music direct for universities, regional theaters, and children's theater programs.

Charis has been the recipient of the Robert Campbell Prize at the Ithaca College Choral Composition Festival, Honorable Mention in the OperaHub of Boston Aria Competition, a four-time winner of The International Christmas Carol and Chanukah Song Writing Competition, and The Nancy Van de Vate International Prize for Opera.

Charis received degrees in composition from Brigham Young University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She currently coaches music theater students at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia and Drexel University. When not busy with new music, Charis can be found growing organic tomatoes in her urban garden. She especially enjoys stalking the basement of the FBI with Agents Mulder and Scully, looking for signs of alien life.
