Claire Cowart is Assistant Teaching Professor in the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. In this role, she teaches master’s degree candidates in the Paul F. Harron Graduate Program in Television & Media Management as well as undergraduates in the department of Cinema & Television.
Claire is an accomplished media executive whose career spans a wide array of segments in the broader media eco-system. She is an expert in leveraging rapidly advancing technological and consumer trends to evolve business models and grow revenue and is well known for structuring and negotiating innovative win-win deals and partnerships.
Claire has extensive senior management experience in both major media companies and venture-funded startups with roles ranging from P&L management, Strategy and Operations to Business Development, Marketing and Sales. Select companies have included Showtime Networks, Time Warner’s Court TV cable network, Rentrak (now comScore) and several multi-platform media and technology startups. She began her career as an Engineer for Procter and Gamble, managing a 24X7 manufacturing operation at the age of 25.
Claire most recently taught business and entrepreneurship courses as Adjunct Faculty for Drexel’s Lebow College of Business and the Close School of Entrepreneurship, and previously for Montclair State University and University of Massachusetts.
Claire earned an MBA from Harvard University, a BS Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University and a Certificate in Digital Marketing from NYU. She has served on the national Board of Directors of Women in Cable Telecommunications and is an alumna of the Betsy Magness Leadership Institute, a prestigious year-long leadership development program sponsored by the cable and telecommunications industry.
Claire and her husband live in NJ and, together, raised two wonderful young adults; one a news producer and one a college student. She enjoys beach vacations, hiking and international travel and recently completed a 90-mile 7-day trek on the Camino de Santiago in Spain.
