Biography

Lori SchraderBachar is passionate about public service, social justice issues, and community volunteerism. Professionally, she is public service manager with the Professional Licensing Bureau within the Iowa Division of Banking and is the board executive of the Iowa Architectural Examining Board and Iowa Interior Design Examining Board. The Bureau protects the public through regulation that ensures safety, soundness and adherence to laws and rules. She has worked for the State of Iowa since 1999, when she began with the Iowa Commission on the Status of Women.

SchraderBachar is active in a variety of community organizations and boards. She is currently the board chair of the IMPACT Community Action Program in central Iowa. She is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Des Moines, where she served as the Financial Vice President. She is the former elected vice president and policy chair of the National Association of Commission for Women, board member of the Buena Vista University Alumni Board, and past president of the Iowa Capital Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration. She was named one of twelve Visionary Delegates to Vision 2020 and served on Vision 2020s leadership team. She received volunteer awards from Governor Vilsack, Governor’s Golden Dome Awards: Lt. Governor’s Employee Volunteer Award, United Way of Central Iowa, Iowa Jaycees, and Junior League of Des Moines. She is a graduate of the Ankeny Leadership Institute. In 2010, she was named as one of Des Moines Forty Under Forty.

Her academic background includes a BA degree in social science and speech/drama from Buena Vista University and master of public administration degree from Drake University. Additionally, she is a certified public manager. She has worked for the Iowa Commission on the Status of Women, Iowa United Methodist Church and Family Services of Champaign County (IL). She and her husband Steve live in Ankeny with their two children, dog, and cat.
