Association of Junior Leagues International Inc.
Janine le Sueur is the Director of Programs at the Association of Junior Leagues International Inc. where her primary responsibilities are coaching Junior League chapters in community engagement and organizational excellence. The Junior League trains highly skilled women volunteer civic leaders for the purposes of addressing community issues through powerful community partnerships and coalitions. Janine also has the inspiring responsibility of leading the Association’s effort to institutionalize the diversity, equity and inclusion across The Junior League. She is passionate about work in citizen participation, empowerment and voter engagement especially in communities that have historically experienced discrimination and marginalization.
Prior to the Junior League, she worked for many years as strategic advisor to community-based organizations (NGOs) in the Caribbean and Africa. She also had oversight over several large international development initiatives funded by the European Development Fund and the Dutch Government. While in the Caribbean, she was instrumental in setting up a coalition of non-governmental organizations to establish funding priorities for different social sectors as a response to resource scarcity.
She served on the founding board of a Caribbean nature trust fund aimed at the conservation of marine and biodiverse environments. She also supervised the restructuring of a regional Caribbean HIV/AIDS advocacy group to respond better to HIV/AIDS challenges and funding opportunities. Janine also mentored youth participating in a micro-enterprise training program as a means to alleviating adolescent poverty. She holds a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Cape Town South Africa, an MPhil in Land Economics from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom and an MBA in Finance, Technology and International Management from the Lally School of Management at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.
