The future of urban health
starts locally

Philadelphia Focus

The Urban Health Collaborative’s strong commitment to Philadelphia and the surrounding region stems from our deep engagement with the community and longstanding local partnerships. We believe that our work can continue getting stronger and more impactful as we learn from, and share lessons with, other urban areas. Outside of Philadelphia, the surrounding region includes other cities facing many similar challenges.

The evidence that the UHC compiles on the effects of neighborhoods on health can be used to advocate for community improvement. We are mindful of the importance of assuring our work serves the interest of communities who need support most. We aim to expand connections and local collaborations in Philadelphia, as well as to disseminate findings to promote community action and policy change.

The UHC builds on established partnerships of its faculty with local, state and federal government agencies (health departments and other sectors related to health), other academic institutions, health systems, local retail and industry partners, non-governmental organizations, and community members.

UHC Briefs

We create data and community briefs to generate urgency and action around pressing topics and to describe community assets and needs. Our goals are to:

  • Improve the assessment of public health problems in cities
  • Use data to identify opportunities to address health disparities
  • Communicate public health findings to the public, policymakers, and community leaders
