Andrew Sandefur

Andrew Sandefur Study Abroad Coordinator


Andrew is the Study Abroad Coordinator and is the first point of contact in Drexel’s Study Abroad Office for students. Andrew received his BA from Temple University and during his time at Temple, did a study abroad program in Johannesburg, South Africa. After graduating and before joining Drexel’s Study Abroad Office, Andrew participated in a ten-month service term with AmeriCorps NCCC-FEMA Corps, traveling to numerous states throughout the US and assisting with disaster relief and preparedness.

Mary Hagenbach Study Abroad Advisor


Mary is the advisor for all programs in Latin America, Spain, and Germany. She has worked in higher education for over 5 years, including one and a half years at a university in Lima, Peru. Mary studied abroad in London, and Mexico at Temple University, where she earned a B.A. in Communications. Mary also holds an M.S. in Administration of Human Services from Chestnut Hill College.

Programs: Germany, Spain, Chile, Brazil, Costa Rica, and Inbound Exchange

Lisa Shen Study Abroad Advisor & Communications Manager


Lisa is the advisor for all programs in Asia, the Middle East, and parts of Continental Europe. She received her B.A. from Penn State University and is recently completed her Master’s degree in Global and International Education at Drexel University. Lisa studied abroad in Rome, Italy and then worked in Changsha, Hunan, China for two years.

Programs: Denmark, Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, Turkey, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, Russia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, China, and South Korea

Lotte Buiting Senior Study Abroad Advisor


Lotte is the advisor for all programs in London, graduate study abroad, independent study abroad, and all non-credit bearing international experiences. She has worked in higher education for over 10 years as an academic advisor and instructor of Spanish, literature and film. Lotte studied abroad in Canada for her last two years of high school, in Spain and Italy as an undergraduate student, and in Mexico as a graduate student. Born and raised in The Netherlands, Lotte holds an MA in Spanish Language and Literature and an M.Ed. in Second Language Acquisition from Utrecht University, and a Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literatures from Harvard University.

Senior Advisor Lauren Steinberg

Lauren Steinberg Assistant Director of Study Abroad


Lauren is the advisor for all programs in English-speaking countries. She has worked in higher education for over 5 years. Lauren studied abroad in Australia, and then returned several years later to work there. Lauren received her BA in Communications and Sociology from the University of Pittsburgh and holds an MA in Higher Education from the University of Michigan.

Programs: England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand

Associate Director Ahaji Schreffler

Ahaji Schreffler Associate Director of Undergraduate Study Abroad


Ahaji works primarily on undergraduate program development including faculty led Intensive Courses Abroad, and is the student advisor for francophone countries. She has worked in international education for over ten years. Ahaji speaks French and completed a co-op abroad in Paris as an International Area Studies student at Drexel.  She volunteers regularly at Love Orphanage in Haiti and co-leads the Drexel Haiti Literary program. 

Programs: France, Belgium, Senegal, Haiti, and faculty-led Intensive Courses Abroad (ICA’s)

Daniela Ascarelli Associate Vice Provost for International Programs, Director of Drexel Study Abroad


Dani has been Director of Drexel’s study abroad programs for over a dozen years and in that time has grown the office from a staff of one to a staff of seven plus a resident director in Equatorial Guinea.  She was born in Rome and immigrated to the US as a child and speaks French and Italian. She studied abroad in France and also spent a year in France as an English Teaching Assistant.

Programs: Equatorial Guinea and other programs as needed.
