Programs and Traditions

There are many featured programs and events throughout the year that we call traditions. Below are a few student life programs and traditions that Drexel Dragons can expect to get involved in.
  • Welcome Week – This celebratory and informative event gives all New Dragons, including both first-year and transfer students, the opportunity to spend time together at Drexel for a full week before diving into classes.
  • Hazing Prevention Week – This important week raises awareness of the negative effects of hazing and provides students with the opportunity to come together for fun activities.
  • Winter Welcome – A weeklong celebration for new and returning Drexel students with fun activities to learn about our Dragon community and get involved.
  • Homecoming – It's the Winter Tradition! Every year, Homecoming is a time for alumni to come back and celebrate their Dragon pride with the rest of the Drexel community. Events include athletic competitions, Alumni events, crowning of the Homecoming Court and Royal Dragon, and the Student Competition.
  • University City 5K Run – Managed by Drexel University, Student Life, and Drexel Alumni; students and community members are encouraged to line the race route and help cheer on the runners. The event benefits the Nicholas P. Pipino Memorial Scholarship for Drexel University students.
  • Drexel Drag Show– Each year, Drexel community members come together for a night of extravaganza. The art of drag is about performances, satire, and challenging social norms and concepts while promoting diversity and inclusion.
  • The Ball – Brought to you by the Student Center for Diversity and Inclusion (SCDI), The Ball is a night of celebration welcome to all identities and gender expressions.
  • Student Life Awards – Student Life and the Undergraduate Student Government Association collaborate to recognize and reward Drexel community members who have made significant contributions to student life at the University and in the surrounding community.
  • Commencement – Every year, Drexel celebrates student achievement as seniors graduate and are honored with both their college and school ceremony and the special University-wide Commencement ceremony at Citizens Bank Park.

Campus Safety Policies

We hold the safety and security of all Drexel community members, including our visiting guests, as our highest priority. Before visiting campus, we ask that all guests review our Security Guidelines to better understand the University policies and protections put in place to protect all Dragons.

Welcome Week at Drexel University marks the beginning of an exciting time in every Dragon’s journey, as they officially become part of the Drexel family! This fun-filled week is more than just orientation — Welcome Week gives all New Dragons the opportunity to move-in early; begin to get adjusted to college life; and get to know each other, Drexel's campus, and the great city of Philadelphia all before starting classes.

You won't want to miss this electrifying evening where everybody is welcome — it’s the Annual Drexel Drag show, co-sponsored by the Good Idea Fund!

Here at Drexel, we hold Homecoming each year as our Winter Tradition. It's our weeklong celebration that instills a sense of pride within the entire Drexel community and provides an opportunity for all to come together while showing off their Drexel spirit. From the Student Competition to Alumni Relations' and Athletics' events, we hope everyone will come out for this special Drexel tradition!

Drexel University Commencement is a momentous occasion held on campus, and at various locations throughout the city, that celebrates the accomplishments of Drexel graduates and the exciting transition into the next chapter of their lives. The University-wide Commencement ceremony was held for the fourth straight year at Citizens Bank Park, the home of the Philadelphia Phillies.
