New Policy to Require Foreign Nationals Traveling to the U.S. to Be Fully Vaccinated

Effective November 8, 2021, all regional travel restrictions will be lifted and replaced by a COVID-19 vaccination requirement. All adult non-citizens and non-permanent residents entering the U.S. by air will be required to show proof of vaccination with an acceptable COVID-19 vaccine and a negative result on a COVID viral test taken within three days preceding travel to the U.S. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will extend land border restrictions through January 21, 2022. Only essential travel will be allowed across the U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada land borders. However, the restrictions will be lifted for fully COVID-19 vaccinated foreign nationals. Please refer to the following NAFSA COVID-19 Restrictions on U.S. Visas and Entry page for more detailed information, including a list of U.S. acceptable COVID-19 vaccines and the meaning of “fully vaccinated”.

ISSS will continue to closely monitor further updates regarding this policy and communicate additional information when available.
