Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program
Drexel University School of Education
Combine your love of your STEM major with a desire to make an impact in the lives of children through Drexel University’s Noyce Teacher Scholarship program. All Drexel students majoring in a STEM who enroll in the DragonsTeach Middle Years program are eligible to receive up to $30,000 toward their tuition.
What is the Noyce Scholarship?
The National Science Foundation’s Robert Noyce Scholarship program is a $1.2 million grant awarded to Drexel to address a national shortage of strong STEM teachers. Scholarships are awarded to 24 Drexel students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a major related to science, technology, engineering or mathematics to earn pre-service teacher certification in middle grades (4-8) science or mathematics through Drexel’s DragonsTeach Middle Years program. Each scholarship recipient will receive $15,000 annually applied to their tuition for up to two years or $30,000. In return, each scholarship recipient will agree to serve as a STEM teacher in a high-need school district for at least two years.
What is DragonsTeach Middle Years?
DragonsTeach Middle Years (DTMY) is a Drexel University program that allows students to keep their chosen major and become a certified middle years (grades 4-8) teacher. DTMY students experience teaching through inquiry-based instruction by taking education courses with their electives and completing student teaching experiences at local schools. This program addresses the local need for more qualified middle school teachers and provides students the opportunity to explore teaching.
To apply for a Noyce Scholarship you must be a current Drexel University student who is earning a bachelors degree in science, mathematics or engineering. Accepted students will be required to complete middle school teacher certification courses at Drexel University. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong interest in STEM education as well as a desire in teaching and learning STEM subjects. Students will also be required to complete at least two years of teaching in a high need school district.
