Professional Development Learning Modules
Steinbright will make every effort to provide sufficient co-op opportunities to which students can apply, but the University cannot make any guarantee of employment. The employment process is competitive and academic performance, skills, motivation, maturity, attitude, and employment potential will determine whether any student is offered a job. If a student is having difficulty securing a co-op, the assigned co-op advisor will assist with a continued job search.
If a student has not secured and registered an approved co-op position by the beginning of the co-op term, has a delayed start date or if their employment status has changed, the student will be enrolled in and required to complete one of two professional development learning modules. Depending on the student's unique situation their co-op advisor will determine if the student will be placed into "Strategic Career Planning and Development" or "Advance Your Career: Log-In and Level Up". Both modules are located on Drexel Learn, are asynchronous, and will allow students to earn co-op credit during the time in which they are unemployed or waiting for employment to begin.
Students will be required to complete weekly assignments until they have found a position, had that position approved by their coop advisor, submitted all necessary registration forms and begun working. Students are responsible for maintaining regular contact with their co-op advisor throughout this period.
The final grade and subsequent coop credit will be based on the successful completion of assignments. Co-op participation is pass/fail, and therefore, participation in these modules is pass/fail. A student must receive a 75% or higher to pass.
Successful completion of "Strategic Career Planning and Development" or "Advance Your Career: Log-In and Level Up" will yield Directed Approved Credit for the term(s) registered for co-op. This will be reflected on the transcript as "DCU" and will satisfy the program requirement towards graduation.
If at any time students need assistance or advice, they should contact their co-op advisor.
Strategic Career Planning and Development
The Steinbright Career Development Center's "Strategic Career Planning and Development" (SCPD) module has multiple objectives and outcomes: to assist students with their job search by providing them with instruction, structure, and organization; to engage students in professional development, career awareness and career readiness activities; to provide students with weekly feedback and guidance from their co-op advisor; and to serve as a means for students to earn co-op credit (DCUs) for the effort they are putting forth in their search and professional development.
Advance Your Career: Log-In and Level Up
The Steinbright Career Development Center's "Advance Your Career: Log-in and Level Up" (AYC) will support students so that they can explore and build the skills necessary for their professional and career goals. The module has multiple objectives and outcomes: to identify opportunities to learn and grow by completing a career competency self-assessment and professional interest tracker; to research professional industry trends; to network using multiple channels including LinkedIn, Handshake, professional networks, and informal network; to explore free professional development opportunities; to create and execute a Professional Development Plan; to provide constructive feedback to peers related to their Professional Development Plan; and to serve as a means for students to earn co-op credit (DCUs) for the effort they are putting forth in their professional development.
