Greece

Crete is the largest and southernmost island in Greece. The island has a remarkable history, visible at the ruins of the Minoan palace of Knossos, the Venetian fortresses of Rethymno, and the Venetian port of Chania. Cretan people are very proud of their culture, particularly their musical traditions. In Crete, you will find beautiful beaches and busy cities but also traditional and remote villages in the mountains.

Vidalakis Family Cretan Scholars Program

Since 2006, dozens of Drexel co-op students have worked in a variety of roles across myriad institutions earning co-op credit with the support of the Vidalakis Family Cretan Scholars Program.

Recent co-op experiences have had students working in cultural organizations, conducting research at local educational institutions, and making an impact in locally owned organizations with long-standing and deep connections to the island. In addition to completing professional work that is related to a student's major and/or career aspirations, students will gain experience in diverse international work environments and develop critical skills in cross-cultural communication. Successfully navigating a new work culture will be valued by future employers and allow students to develop valuable skills that align with the future of work.

Regardless of a student's job and employer, co-op on Crete allows students to explore new places, dive into new cultures, and understand people who come from different backgrounds. The professional experience students gain will benefit each student's continued professional development and enhance their marketability to future potential employers.

The co-op experience will start or conclude with Drexel's Intensive Course Abroad Greece: Cretan Civilizations (during the University's spring break). Combining co-op and academic study in this manner truly exemplifies the University's long-standing commitment to experiential education in all its forms. Details about the course and their required participation will be shared when students commit to the co-op experience. Learn more about the course.

In addition to securing a career-enhancing co-op on Crete, students will receive assistance in obtaining their visa and on-island housing.
