Episode 1: Keep Calm and Zumba!
September 16, 2018
Hey, Ambeisa here! This week on My Rec Life, Connor and I are dancing away at Zumba class. Zumba is described as an aerobic fitness program featuring movements inspired by Latin American dance. Zumba is one of my favorite activities at the Rec Center; after a long day of classes and work, there is nothing better than joining your friends to groove in the studio. The instructors at the Rec Center always switch up their routines, and bring new and fun choreography to popular songs. The exercise can be intense at times, but is so worth it! The combination of a cardio workout with muscle strengthening gives you a well-rounded fitness experience.
Our instructor, Ijeoma, made everyone feel welcome, and encouraged everyone to express themselves freely. Connor and I both have dance experience so we were more accustomed to this kind of movement, but for those who have not danced before, the movements were broken down so you could easily learn. Throughout class Ijeoma remained at the front of the studio doing the dance moves for the rest of the class to follow. Attending class with Connor, who’s such a good dancer, inspired me to add extra flare to my dance moves- just watching him made me burn calories. The workout was so much fun we nearly forgot we were exercising!
Regardless of the experience level, everyone had a great time laughing and sweating together. The routines were easy to follow for beginners and experienced dancers still had a blast. We look forward to coming back and to try the full variety of instructors and routines, as well as to meet new people! We left feeling refreshed, energized, and ready for more!
This has been My Rec Life, stay tuned in next week for our video as The Blog Squad takes on the climbing wall!
